Effect of Kelussia odoratissima Mozaffarian on Lipid and Glucose Profile

【 摘 要 】

Background:Flavonoidsareagroupofpolyphenoliccompoundswithantioxidantpropertiesthathelpreducecardiovascularriskfactors.Kelussiaodoratissimaisaflavonoid-containingplant,theeffectofwhichwasanalyzedondecreasingbloodlipidlevelsinmice.Objectives:Thepresentstudywascarriedoutwiththeaimofdeterminingtheanti-hyperlipidemiaeffectsofthisherbonmice.MaterialsandMethods:Inthispreclinicalstudy,70Balb/cmiceweredividedtofive14-membergroupsandreceivednormaldiet,normaldietcontaining5%oliveoil,highcholesterol(2%cholesteroland5%oliveoil)dietandhighcholesteroldietaccompaniedbyKelussiaodoratissima10%or20%hydro-alcoholicextract.Aftertwoweeks,bloodsamplesweretakenandcholesterol,triglyceride,lowdensitylipoprotein(LDL),verylowdensitylipoprotein(VLDL),highdensitylipoprotein(HDL),andfastingbloodsugar(FBS)weremeasured.Results:Inthisanimalmodel,thelevelsofallserumlipidsincludingcholesterol,HDL,VLDL,LDL,triglycerideandFBShadasignificantdecreasetwoweeksafterthebeginningofthestudy.Moreover,atthesametime,inthegroupthatreceived20%hydro-alcoholicextract,theserumlevelsofcholesterol,HDLandLDLhadasignificantdecrease(Plt;0.05).Conclusions:Kelussiaodoratissimamighthaveadesirableeffectonserumlipidprofileandmighthavebeneficialeffectsonhyperlipidemicpatients.
