Epidemiology of Hepatitis C Virus Infection in ESRD Patients in Khuzestan Province, Iran

【 摘 要 】

Background:LiverdiseasecausedbyhepatitisCvirus(HCV)inpatientswithend-stagerenaldisease(ESRD)causessignificantmorbidityandmortality.TheaimofthisstudywastodeterminetheprevalenceofHCVinfectionanditsrelationshipinESRDpatientslivingintheprovinceofKhuzestan,Iran.MaterialsandMethods:InacrosssectionalstudyfromDecember2010toMarch2011,entireofESRDpatientstreatedwithhemodialysis(HD)orperitonealdialysis(PD)intheKhuzestanprovinceenrolledforthestudy.AstandardizedquestionnairewasusedtocollectSocialanddemographicdataincludingcauseofESRDanddateofonsetofPDorHD.BloodsamplesweretestedforhepatitisCantibody(anti-HCV)byenzyme-linkedimmunosorbentassays(ELISA).TheResearchCenterofAhvazJoundishapurUniversityofMedicalSciencesapprovedthestudy.Results:Inoverall,1117ESRDpatientswereenrolledforthestudy.Theprevalenceofanti-HCVwas3.4%(38patients,20maleswithMeanageof45.29yearsand18fe-maleswithMeanageof45.6years).ThemostcommonCauseofESRDinanti-HCVpositivepatientswashighbloodpressurein45.4%,followedby,DMin28.7%,andunknownin13.9%.Wedinnotfindanyassociationbetweenbothsexes(P=0.06)andalsobetweenmeanageofanti-HCVpositiveandnegativepatients(P=0.59).TherewasasignificantassociationbetweenhighbloodpressureascauseofESRDwithanti-HCVpositivity(0.033).Conclusions:Although,theprevalenceofHCVinfectionamongESRDpatientshasdecreasedinrecentyears,howeveritremainsasasignificantcauseofviralhepatitisamongthesepatientsinKhuzestanprovince
