【 摘 要 】

Abstract::Atotalof160sputumsampleswereobtainedfrompneumoniapatients(1–30years)attendingtheUniversityofBeninTeachingHospital,BeninCity.ThemicroorganismsencounteredincludedStreptococcusviridians,Staphylococcusaureus,Klebsiellapneumoniae,MoraxellacatarrhalisandStaphylococcusspecies.S.viridanswashighestinoccurrence(51.5%)andStaphylococcusspp.wastheleast(2.9%).Theirantibioticresistancepatternrevealedthatstreptomycinhadthehighestactivity(94.1%)andgentamycintheleast(23.8%).Amoxicillinresistancegene(amxr)wasdetectedin89(88.1%)outofthetotalisolates.Whentheseresistantisolatesweresubjectedtocuringusing10%sodiumdodecylsulfate,73(82.0%)losttheirresistancegenes.Anaveragetransferrateof53.88%and33.59%wereobtainedforintraspeciesandintergenerictransferofamxrgenerespectively.Intraspeciesgenetransferratewassignificantlyhigherthanintergenericatp#60;0.001,usingthechi–squaregoodnessoffittestforstatisticalanalysis.
