【 摘 要 】

Abstract::Severeobesityleadstohighmortality,morbidityandpsychologicalproblems;andhasnega-tiveeffectsonqualityoflife.Beneficialeffectsofriskreductionthroughchanginglifestyleandpharmacologicaltherapyhavebeendocumented.Environmentalfactorsplayaroleindevelopmentofthemetabolicsyndromeandarerecommendedtobethesubjectoftargetingscreeningfordiseasepreventinginpartnersofpeoplewiththemetabolicsyndrome.Anoverweightchildoradolescentmayhaveseveralriskfactorsandshouldbecarefullyevalu-atedregardingeachriskfactorthroughscreening.Clinicalmanagementofmetabolicsyn-dromeaimstoreduceatherosclerosisriskatfirstandthentoreducedevelopmentofdiabetesmellitusrisk;therefore,clinicalmanagementofmetabolicsyndromestartswithreducingmajorriskfactorssuchascessationofsmoking,controllingLDLandtriglycerideslevel,in-creasingHDLlevel,andcontrollingbloodpressureandglucoselevels.Treatmentoflipidandnon-lipidriskfactorsshouldbestartedafterlifestylechanges.Bodyweightshouldbereduced7-10%duringfirstyearoftherapy.Amajorcomponentoflifestylechangesisreachingtheenergybalance.Thegoalforphysicalactivityistobeatleast30minutesofexerciseperday;however,thelevelofactivityneedstobeadjustedregardingtheindividuals’age.Metabolicsyndromeisaccompaniedbyseveralcomplicationsandaffectssocialhealthinchildhoodandadolescence;therefore,werecommendtheestablishmentofascreeningguidelineforriskfactorreductioninmetabolicsyndromethatincludesadietandphysicalactivityprogram,andpharmacologicaltreatment.
