【 摘 要 】

Background:Citationsareanimportantmeasureofthequalityandcontentofscientificcommunica-tions.SincenostudyregardingthemostcitedsurgicalarticlesfromIranexists,thisarticleaimstoidenti-fythesetopcitedarticles.MaterialsandMethods:The50mostfrequentlycitedarticlesinallfieldsofsurgeryoriginatedfromIranwereidentifiedindatabaseofScopusinJanuary2007.Results:Themeannumberofcitationsperarticlewas10.Themostcitedarticlereceived54citations,andtheleastcitedarticlereceived4.Morethantwo-thirdsofarticleswerepublishedafter2000.Oph-thalmologyandurologyledthelistofthesurgicalfields,eachwith11articles.Afewarticlesinthefieldofgeneralsurgerywerenoted.TherewasnotevenanIranianjournalappearedonthelist.Conclusion:Conclusion:ItcanbeconcludedthatalthoughthenumberofcitationsofIranianarticlesisfarbehindtop-citedinternationalarticles,thecurrenttrendispromising.
