【 摘 要 】

Introduction:ClassIIImalocclusionisasubjectofinterestandconcernfortheorthodontistinbothresearchandclinicalpractice.StudiesofthetransverserelationshipofthemaxillatothemandibleinClassIIIsubjectshavebeenlimitedtotheanalysisofthearchwidths.ClassIIIskeletalmalocclusionthoughisprimarilyasagittaljawdiscrepancy,itwouldbeinterestingtostudytheskeletalfeaturesintransverseplanealsoAimsandObjectives:ToassessthefacialasymmetryintransverseplaneinindividualshavingskeletalclassIIIjawdiscrepancyMaterialsandmethodology:90subjects(45malesand45females)agedbetween18and30yearswereselectedasperinclusioncriteriaandweregroupedasGroupI.IndividualswithnormalclassIrelationship,GroupII.WithmaxillarydeficiencyandGroupIII.Withmandibularexcess.AnalysesofdentofacialcharacteristicsofselectedindividualsweredoneusingGrummon#39;sanalysisinFrontalcephalograms.ThedataobtainedwasstatisticallyanalyzedusingPairedTtest.Resultsandconclusions:FacialasymmetryexistsbetweenrightandleftsidesinskeletalclassIIIindividuals.Themandibleisfoundtobemoreasymmetricthanmaxillainpatientswithmaxillarydeficiency.
