Dental Age estimation of 6-15 year old North Indian children using Willems Method

【 摘 要 】

:Objective:Assessmentoftoothdevelopmenttoestimatetheageoflivingsubjectsisrequiredinvariousdisciplinesincludingpaediatricdentistry,orthodontics,andforensicdentistry.ThemostwidelyusedmethodforageestimationbyevaluatingtoothdevelopmentistheonegivenbyDemirjianetalin1973,andhasbeenmodifiedin2001byWillems.WillemsmethodhasbeentestedonlyafewtimesinNorthIndianchildren,thustheneedforpresentstudy.MaterialsandMethod:Toothdevelopmentwasassessedinsevenleftmandibularteethfrom215orthopantomograms(OPGs)belongingtohealthychildrenaged6-15yearsselectedbyconveniencesampling,frompatientsoftheSudhaRustagiCollegeofDentalSciencesResearch,FaridabadandwerestagedaccordingtoWillemsmethod.ThestatisticalanalysiswasdoneusingtheUnpaired#39;t#39;testandPaired#39;t#39;test.Results:Willemsmethodproducedasignificantmeanover-estimationof0.36yearsinboysand0.24yearsingirls.Themeanoverestimationforwaslessforgirlsascomparedtoboysandtheresultswerestatisticallysignificant(p<0.05).Also,theyoungeragegroupshadahigheramountofoverestimationthantheolderagegroups.Conclusion:Thepresentresultssupporttheneedforrefinementofthepopulation-specificstandardsinWillemsmethod,foritsfurtherapplication.
