【 摘 要 】

Theaimofthisstudywastoinvestigatetheeffectsofanessentialoil(EO)ofatraditionalherb;Melissaofficinalis(MO),onthelipidprofileofrabbitsfedacholesterol-richdiet(HC).Twentyrabbitsweredividedintofourgroups(n=5foreach):Normalcontrol(NC)whichfedastandarddietandthreecholesterol-fedgroups:HC,HC+1%MO,andHC+3%MOgroupswhichreceived0%,1%,and3%EO,respectivelyforfourweeks.Bloodsampleswerecollectedonday0andthenatweeks1,2,3,and4todeterminethelevelsoftotalserumcholesterol(TC),highdensitylipoprotein-cholesterol(HDL-C),lowdensitylipoprotein-cholesterol(LDL-C),verylowdensitylipoprotein-cholesterol(VLDL-C),triglycerides(TGs)andatherogenicindex(AI).Therewerenosignificantdifferencesinbodyweightgainandfoodintakeinallgroups.TheHCapparentlyraisedtheTC,LDL-C,VLDL-C,HDL-CandTGswithoutsignificantaccrualeffectonAI.IncomparisontoNCgroup,EOinbothHC+1%MOandHC+3%MOgroupssignificantlydecreasedserumlipidandlipoproteinlevelwhereasnosignificanteffectonAIwasobserved.ItcanbeconcludedthatEOextractedfromMOleavescontributestoalipid-loweringactionincholesterol-fedrabbits.
