Effects of Dietary Fatty Acids on the Fecundity of the Endoparasitoid Pimpla turionellae L. (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae)

【 摘 要 】

Synovigenicparasitoidsrelyonadultfeedingtoincreasetheirreproductivepotential.Here,weexaminedtheimpactoffattyacidcompositionintheartificialdietonthefecundityandhatchabilityoftheendoparasitoidPimplaturionellaeL.adultfemales.Femaleswereprovidedwithnaturaldiet(honeyandhostpupae),abasicchemically-definedsyntheticdiet,orfivedifferentsyntheticdietswithoutpalmitic,stearic,oleicacid,linoleicacidorlinolenicacidseparately,orallfattyacids.Theeffectsofdietaryfattyaciddeficiencyontotalandage-dependentfecundityandhatchabilityoftheparasitoidwereinvestigated.Femalesfedwithnaturaldietlaid27.4eggsthroughoutaperiodof15d,and78.96%oftheseeggshatched.Thehighestfecunditywasobservedwithfemalesfedwithbasicsyntheticdiet,astearic-andpalmiticacid-freedietoranoleicacid-freediet.Femalesprovidedwithlinoleicacid-andallfattyacids-freedietshadthelowestfecundity.Thehighestegghatching(84.76%)wasobservedwithfemalesfedwiththebasicsyntheticdietwhereasfattyacid-freedietreducedegghatchingto57.05%.Age-dependentfecundityincreasedfromday20to28andthendecreasedonday31.Egghatchabilityoffemalesprovidedwithlinoleicorlinolenicacid-freedietsweresimilartothosefedwithallfattyacid-freediet.Relativetobasicsyntheticdiet,linoleicorlinolenicacid-freeandallfattyacids-freedietssignificantlyreducedtotalanddiet-dependentegghatchability.Theseresultshaveimportantimplicationsforunderstandingboththelipidallocationstrategyandtheimpactoffattyacidsaloneandincombinationonreproductionofthisparasitoid,whichareusedasimportantbiologicalcontrolagent.
