【 摘 要 】

Theurbanclustersserveaspowerfulmagnetsofeconomicopportunitiesandfacilitiesforalargenumberofpopulation.TheonlyspacetheyareabletograbareshantytownwhichareeitherverycloselylocatedoradjacenttomajorindustrialzonesinlargecitiesoftheworldincludingPakistan.Certainlytheseindustrialestatescapturethelabormarketslocatednearby.Theseshantytownshaveemergedasaresultofin-migrantinfluxfromtheinteriorofthecountryandprovinces.Theclustersaregeographicalandsectorwiseconcentrationofnumerousproducersandancillaryagents,engagedinproduction,supplyortradeactivities.Thesearedirectlyassociatedwiththemanufacturingofaspecificproductorsetofproductshenceclustersconstitutethecoreofindustrialdistricts.Anindustrialdistrictcannowbedefinedasageographicalandspatialconcentrationoffirmswhoseorganizationofproductsismarkedbyadensenetworkoflocalinter-firmrelations.Inordertoinvestigatetheurbandevelopmentandgeo-spatialagglomerationinPakistanPCAhasbeenrunusingelevenvariablesrepresentingurbanindustrialinfrastructure.Theresultsrevealthesignificantroleplayedbylargeindustrialclusterscontainedinvariousurbancentersofthecountry.Thisroleiswellreflectedinthepopulationpotentialofeachoftheseurbancenters.
