Middle Devonian invertebrate trace fossils from the marginal marine carbonates of the Zachełmie tetrapod tracksite, Holy Cross Mountains, Poland

【 摘 要 】

ThedolomiticdepositsoftheMiddleDevonianWojciechowiceFormationexposedatthetetrapodtracksiteintheZachełmieQuarryintheHolyCrossMountains(Poland)arecharacterisedbyalowdiversityofinvertebratetracefossilassociation.Fourichnoassemblagescanbeidentifiedinthetrack-bearing,lowerpartofthesuccession.Themostconspicuousaretracefossilsproducedbyarthropods(probablycrustaceans),whichcanformdistinctiveandlargehorizontalburrows.Thedescribedichnotaxa(cf.Skolithosisp.,cf.Balanoglossitesisp.,Alcyonidiopsisisp.,Spongeliomorphaisp.,Gordiaisp.,andRhizocoralliumisp.)arewellknownfromtypicalmarginal-marineandshallow-marinedeposits.Nevertheless,thestudiedassemblageswerefoundinsparselydistributedhorizonsandaredominatedbyasingleorafewichnotaxawithlocallyhightrace-densities.Distributionandcompositionofthetracefossilassemblagesprobablyreflectsoccurrenceoftheimpoverished,stressedCruzianaichnofacies.Itwasaffectedbychangesinwaterdepthwithintermittentperiodsofsubaerialexposureconnectedwithsalinityfluctuations.Theinvertebratetracefossilassemblage,tetrapodtracksandassociatedsedimentologicalfeaturespointtodepositioninamarginal-marine,mostlyperitidalandlagoonalenvironmentwithminorterrestrialinfluences.
