TheIbero-ArmoricanArcisthemainVariscanmacrostructureinSWEurope.ItsbranchespreservetheCambrianrecordofacontinuousmarginofWestGondwana,fromitssouthwesternedge(WestAsturian-LeoneseandCantabrianzonesandtheirlateralcontinuityintotheIberianChains)toitsnortheasternextension(basementoftheCenozoicAquitainebasin,MontagneNoire,southernCévennes,andSardinia).TheseVariscanrelicsallowthereconstructionofaCambrianEpoch2carbonatebeltthatdevelopedintermittentlyalongWestGondwana.Faciesassociationsshowthatthemaincentresofcarbonateproductivitywerenucleatedinooidalandsandshoals,togetherwithmicrobialandmicrobial-archaeocyathanreefs,developedinhighenergyregimesundersubtropicalaridconditions.Outsidetheinnercarbonatebelt,carbonateproductionwasepisodicandrelatedtodepositionofkerogenousblackshalesandphosphogenesisintheCentralIberianZoneandnorthernpartsofMontagneNoireandCévennes.Developmentofcarbonateplatformsalongthemarginwasdiachronousanddiscontinuous,duetopolewarddriftingandtectonicallyinduceddrowningandflooding.BiogeographicconnectionwithsimilarsubtropicalcarbonateplatformsfromEastGondwana(mainlySouthChina)favouredthemigrationofequatorialandsubtropicaltrilobitegenera,suchasDolerolenus,Eoredlichia,Metaredlichia,Protolenus,Redlichia,andSardaspis.
