Lower and Middle Ordovician conodont diversity of the Yichang Region, Hubei Province, Central China

【 摘 要 】

Asurveyonthe(palaeo-)diversityoftheLowerandMiddleOrdovicianconodontfaunasfromtheYichangRegion,HubeiProvince,CentralChinaispresented.Analysisofthenumberofspeciesthroughtimeshowsthespeciesrichnessiscyclicaldevelopedinthesuccession–varyingfromlowtohigh.OnemajorconodontdiversitypeakisrecordedinthemidtolateFloianStage(OepikodusevaeZone,stagesliceFl2,LowerOrdovician),where33speciesarerecordedinthelowerunitoftheDawanFormation.AsmallerbutsecondhighdiversityisfoundintheDarriwilianStage(LenodusvariabilisZone;stagesliceDa2,MiddleOrdovician)withamaximumof23species.Secondary,smallerdiversificationmaximaarepresentintheearlyTremadocian,lateTremadocian,earlyDapingianandlateDarriwilianstages.Currentinformationonacritarchs,brachiopods,andtrilobitesshowsthatthehighestdiversitymaximumofconodontscorrespondstoasimilarhighinbrachiopoddiversity,whereasacritarchandtrilobitemaximumdiversityappearaftertheconodonts/brachiopodsintheregion.
