ThisstudypresentsasynthesisofcurrentlyavailabledataonthedistributionofCenomanian-agepalaeodrainagesystemsintheBohemianCretaceousBasin,filledbyfluvialandestuarinestrata,andaninterpretationoftheirrelationshipstothebasementunitsandfaultsystems.Muchoftheprogress,comparedtopreviousstudies,wasmadepossiblebyarecentbasin-scaleevaluationofCenomaniangeneticsequencestratigraphy.Severallocalpalaeodrainagesystemsdevelopedinthebasin,separatedbydrainagedividesoflocalimportanceandonemajordivide–theHolice-NovéMěstoPalaeohigh–whichseparatedthedrainagebasinsoftheTethyanandBorealpalaeogeographicrealms.ThelocationsanddirectionsofpalaeovalleyswerestronglycontrolledbythepositionsofinheritedVariscanbasementfaultzones,whereasthebedrocklithologyhadthesubordinateeffectofnarrowingorbroadeningvalleysonmorevs.lessresistantsubstratum,respectively.TheintrabasinalpartofthepalaeodrainagenetworkfollowedtheslopestowardtheLabe(Elbe)Systemfaultsandwasstronglydominatedbytheconjugate,NNE-trending,JizeraSystemfaultsandfractures.Outletstreams–ultimatetrunkstreamsthatdrainedthebasinarea–areinterpretedtohavefollowedtheLužiceFaultZonetowardtheBorealprovincetotheNorthwest,andtheŽeleznéhoryFaultZonetowardtheTethyanprovincetotheSoutheast.AtboththenorthwesternandsoutheasternendsoftheBohemianCretaceousBasin,shallow-marineorestuarineconditionsareproventohaveexistedduringtheearlyCenomanian.Directevidenceforsyn-depositionalsubsidenceduringtheearlytomid-Cenomanian,fluvialtoestuarinephaseisveryrare,andtheonsetofdepositionbyfluvialbackfillingofthepalaeodrainagesystemswasdrivenmainlybythelong-termriseinglobalsealevel.Subtlesurfacewarping,mostlywithoutdetectablediscretefaulting,isinferredtohavebeenaresponsetotheonsetofthepalaeostressregimethatlater,withfurtherstressaccumulation,ledtosubsidenceinfault-boundeddepocentresoftheBohemianCretaceousBasinandupliftofnewsourceareas.
