【 摘 要 】

RichfossilmaterialoftheEarlyDevonianOrthonychiaprotei(Oehlert,1883)fromtheSaintCéneréFormation,Brittany(France)providesauniquechancetoanalyzetheinfraspecificvariabilityofmusclescarsandpost-larvalshellmorphology.Thepositionofthemusclescarinthisspeciesdependsontheshapeoftheteleoconch,whichseemstobeinfluencedbyitslivingpositionuponthecrinoidhost.Individualshavingateleoconchaperturewithapentagonaloutlineandfiveaperturalprocessesprobablylivedontopofacrinoidcalyxandtheirmusclewasattachedtothecenteroftheirteleoconchs.However,musclescarsaresituatedmorelaterallyinindividualswithirregularteleoconchslackingaperturalprocesses.Thelattergroupwasprobablyattachedtoanotherpartofthecrinoidbodyoreventoanothertypeofhardsubstrate.Juvenilepost-larvalOrthonychiaproteiwasamobileanimal,butveryearlyinitsontogenybecameadaptedtoafixedpositiononthecrinoidbodyandremainedimmobileforthemajorityofitspost-larvalontogeny.Long-termcoexistenceofOrthonychiaproteiwiththesamecrinoidsuggeststhatthisspecieshadalong-termadvantagefromsuchanecologicalstrategy.However,theexistenceofindividualswithirregularlyshapedteleoconchssuggeststhatOrthonychiaproteicouldalsolivesuccessfullyoutsideofthedigestiveopeningsofcrinoidsand,thus,useafoodsourcenotcloselyconnectedwithcrinoids.ThisinterpretationcanbesupportedbythefactthatatleastsomeSilurianandDevonianplatyceratidswereadaptedtolivingonsmallfirmobjects(likeemptycephalopodshells)lyingonthesedimentsurface.
