NautiloidsoftheorderTarphyceridaareacharacteristiccomponentofwarm-waterOrdovicianfaunasofBalticaandLaurentiabutareusuallyabsentfromthecoolerhighlatitudemarineenvironments.ThepresenceofthetarphyceridTrocholites,reportedfromtheMiddleOrdovician,Dobrotivian(lateDarriwilian)strataoftheIberianChainandArmoricanMassif(peri-GondwananEurope),provideanexception.LituitesprimulusBarrande,1865,representedbyasinglepoorly-preservedindividualwasreportedfromcoevalstratainthePragueBasin(Perunica)anddoubtfullyassignedtoCurtocerasorTrocholites.Newbiostratigraphicalywell-constrainedspecimensofTrocholitesdescribedanddiscussedfromtheearlyDobrotivianofthePragueBasin,areconspecificwithTrocholitesfugaxpreviouslydescribedfromtheIberianChainandArmoricanMassif.ThecontemporaneouspresenceofTrocholitesfugaxinPerunicaandperi-GondwananterranesisadditionalevidenceforfaunalconnectionsbetweenthesemicrocontinentsduringtheDobrotivian.BycomparisonwiththeprecedingLlanvirnian(earlyDarriwilian)fauna,thelowdiversityDobrotiviancephalopodfaunaofthePragueBasinsuggestsanincreasingfaunalseparationbetweenPerunicaandBaltica.TheoccurrenceofTrocholitesinearlyDobrotivianstrataofPerunica,theIberianChainandArmoricanMassifreflectsanunusualdispersioneventoftarphyceridsintolowerlatitudeseascoincidingwithadistinctclimateperturbationduringtheOrdovician.
