ThinsectionsfromthethreesyntypesofAraucarioxylonarizonicumKnowlton,1889werere-examinedandfoundtobeanatomicallydistinct.Twoofthesyntypesaresimilarand,consideringAraucarioxylon(“Araucaroxylon”)Kraus,1870asnomensuperfluum,thosetwoareplacedinPullisilvaxylongen.n.asnomennovum(lectotypePullisilvaxylonarizonicum).Thethirdspecimen,knownasthe‘Shermanlog’,istransferredtoChinleoxylonknowltoniigen.etsp.n.Permineralizedwoodsinthreerandomlysampledlarge-diameterlogsassumedtobeA.arizonicumplesiotypeswerefoundtobeanatomicallydistinct,twobeingspecieswithinSilicisilvaxylongen.n.,thethirdnamedCrystalloxylonimprimacrystallumgen.etsp.n.Thus,followingdescriptionsofArboramosasemicircumtracheaSavidgeAsh,2006,ProtocupressinoxylonarizonicumSavidge,2006,andGinkgoxylpropinquushewardiiSavidge,2006,thisstudyfurtherincreasestheregion’snumberofwoodyplantmorphotaxaandindicatesthatadiversityoflargeconiferspecieswereco-evolvingwithcycadsandginkgo-liketreesduringLateTriassic.
