Thepaperdealswiththediversityofdeformations,esp.faults,intheOrdoviciantotheDevoniandepositsofthePragueBasin,theirrelationstotheProterozoicbasement,anddrawssomeconclusionsaboutcausesofthisdiversity.Attentionispaidtotheeastern,deeperdownfoldedpartoftheBasin(PragueSynclinorium).Somelongitudinalfaults(LibeňThrusts,TetÃnThrust)areconfinedtothebasinfillingandareapparentlyduetothereleaseofstressesgeneratedduringfolding.Mostoffaults,however,arerootedintheProterozoicbasementandsomeofthemwereconnectedwithEarlyPalaeozoicsynsedimentarymovementsand/orvolcanism(PragueFault,TachloviceFault,TobolkaFault,etc.).Sometransversefaultsseparatesegmentshavingstructuresincompatibletooneanother.Thistestifiestothetransversefaultingsimultaneouswiththefoldingandtothebasementfracturesinfluencingthedeformationofthebasinfilling.ThedistinctSEvergencyoffoldsintheSilurian-DevonianofthesynclinoriumcanbeexplainedbytheunderthrustingofabasementblocktowardsNW.Otherwise,thetectonictransportinthesynclinoriumwasbilateralandtheverticalcomponentofdisplacementsprevailed.ThegeneraltectoniccharacterofthePragueSynclinoriumtestifiestoitsfullyautochthonousrelationtotheProterozoicbasement.
