Oral bacterial DNA findings in pericardial fluid

【 摘 要 】

Background:WerecentlyreportedthatlargeamountsoforalbacterialDNAcanbefoundinthrombusaspiratesofmyocardialinfarctionpatients.Somecasereportsdescribebacterialfindingsinpericardialfluid,mostlydonewithconventionalculturingandafewwithPCR;inpurulentpericarditis,nevertheless,bacterialPCRhasnotbeenusedasadiagnosticmethodbefore.Objective:TofindoutwhetherbacterialDNAcanbemeasuredinthepericardialfluidandifitcorrelateswithpathologic–anatomicfindingslinkedtocardiovasculardiseases.Methods:Twenty-twopericardialaspirateswerecollectedasepticallypriortoforensicautopsyatTampereUniversityHospitalduring2009–2010.Oftheautopsies,10(45.5%)werefreeofcoronaryarterydisease(CAD),7(31.8%)hadmildand5(22.7%)hadsevereCAD.BacterialDNAamountsweredeterminedusingreal-timequantitativePCRwithspecificprimersandprobesforallbacterialstrainsassociatedwithendodonticdisease(Streptococcusmitisgroup,Streptococcusanginosusgroup,Staphylococcusaureus/Staphylococcusepidermidis,Prevotellaintermedia,Parvimonasmicra)andperiodontaldisease(Aggregatibacteractinomycetemcomitans,Porphyromonasgingivalis,Treponemadenticola,Fusobacteriumnucleatus,andDialisterpneumosintes).Results:Of22cases,14(63.6%)werepositiveforendodonticand8(36.4%)forperiodontal-disease-associatedbacteria.Onlyonecasewaspositiveforbacterialculturing.TherewasastatisticallysignificantassociationbetweentherelativeamountofbacterialDNAinthepericardialfluidandtheseverityofCAD(p=0.035).Conclusions:OralbacterialDNAwasdetectableinpericardialfluidandanassociationbetweentheseverityofCADandthetotalamountofbacterialDNAinpericardialfluidwasfound,suggestingthatthiskindofmeasurementmightbeusefulforclinicalpurposes.Keywords:oral;bacterialDNA;coronaryarterydisease;pericardium (Published:19September2014)Citation:JournalofOralMicrobiology2014,6:25835-http://dx.doi.org/10.3402/jom.v6.25835Toaccessthesupplementarymaterialforthisarticle,pleaseseeSupplementaryfilesunderArticleToolsonline
