【 摘 要 】
EightmembersoftheHerpesviridaefamilycommonlyinfecthumans,andcloseto100%oftheadultpopulationisinfectedwithatleastoneofthese.Thefivethatcausethemosthealthconcernsare:herpessimplexvirus(HSV)type1and2,EpsteinBarrvirus(EBV),cytomegalovirus(CMV),andvaricellazostervirus(VZV).Inaddition,therearehumanherpesvirus(HHV)types68.Thereviewstartsbyintroducingpossibleviralstrategiesingeneral.Theparticularbiologyandhostrelationshipofthevarioushumanherpesviruses,includingtheirpathology,areexaminedsubsequently.Factorsthatcontributetothemaintenanceoflatencyandreactivationofviralreplicationarediscussed.Therewillbespecialreferencetohowthesevirusesexploitandcontributetopathologyintheoralcavity.Reactivationdoesnotnecessarilyimplyclinicalsymptoms,asreflectedintheasymptomaticsheddingofEBVandCMVfromoralmucosa.Theimmuneresponseandthelevelofviraloutputarebothimportanttotheconsequencesexperienced.Keywords:herpessimplex;EpsteinBarr;cytomegalovirus;varicellazoster;reemergence;immunedefense;viralpathology;oralcavity(Published:25October2013)Citation:JournalofOralMicrobiology2013,5:22766-http://dx.doi.org/10.3402/jom.v5i0.22766
