【 摘 要 】
Theentorhinalcortex(EC)isconsideredasthegatetocontroltheflowofinformationintoandoutofthehippocampus.TheECisimportantfornumerousphysiologicalfunctionssuchasemotionalcontrol,learningandmemoryandpathologicaldisordersincludingAlzheimer#8217;sdisease,schizophreniaandtemporallobeepilepsy.Serotoninisaclassicalneurotransmitterwhichmaymodifythesephysiologicalfunctionsandpathologyofneurologicaldiseases.TheECreceivesprofuseserotonergicinnervationsfromtheraphenucleiinthebrainstemandexpresseshighdensityofserotonergicreceptorsincluding5-HT1A,5-HT1D,5-HT1E,5-HT2A,5-HT3and5-HT6.TheprominentinnervationbyserotonergicneuronsandthedenseexpressionofserotonergicreceptorsintheECsuggestthatserotoninisamajormodulatorinthisbrainregion.SerotoninexertsinhibitoryeffectsintheEC.Serotoninhyperpolarizesentorhinalneuronsandinhibitstheexcitatorysynaptictransmissionviaactivationof5-HT1AreceptorsbutfacilitatesGABAreleaseviaactivationof5-HT2Areceptors.Both5-HT1Aand5-HT2Areceptorsarerequiredforserotonin-inducedinhibitionofepileptiformactivityalthough5-HT3receptorsmaybeinvolvedinserotonin-mediatedinhibitionofacetylcholinereleaseintheEC.Furthermore,thefunctionsofserotoninintheECmaybeimplicatedinParkinson#8217;sdisease,Alzheimer#8217;sdiseaseanddepression.Thus,understandingtherolesofserotonergicmodulationintheECisofmajorclinicalimportance.Here,IreviewrecentfindingsconcerningtheeffectsofserotoninonneuralcircuitryactivityintheEC.(IJPPP1211003).
