【 摘 要 】
Spitsbergenshowsaseveralkilometersthick,mostlysiliciclasticDevoniansequence.Inthissequence,theWoodBayFormationrepresentsatypicalOldRedSandstonemegafaciesunitofEarlyDevonianage(Pragian-Emsian).ItoutcropsintheAndréeLandBlock(oftenwronglydesignatedasthe“mainDevoniangraben”)inNWSpitsbergen.Itsstratigraphyhasbeenmostlyestablishedintwoareasofthisblock,thatis,intheWoodfjordenareainthenorth,andintheDicksonfjorden-Austfjordenareainthesouth.Arevisionofthepteraspidiformheterostracanvertebrateshasbeencarriedoutinbothareas.Eightdifferentfossilassemblagesaredefined,fivefortheWoodfjordenarea(WA),andthreefortheDicksonfjorden-Austfjordenarea(DAA),thatenablethecorrelationoftheSigurdfjelletandKappKjeldsen“faunaldivisions”ofthelowerWoodBayFormation(inWA)withtheAustfjordenMember(inDAA),andtheKeltiefjellet“faunaldivision”oftheupperWoodBayFormation(inWA)withtheDicksonfjordenMember(inDAA).Unfortunately,pteraspidsdonothelpwithcorrelationbetweentheuppermostpartsoftheWoodBayFormationinthenorthandsouthoftheAndréeLandBlock.Theseresultsareusedalsoforamoreprecisecorrelationwiththeheterostracan-bearing,EarlyDevonian,OldRedSandstoneseriesofNovayaZemlyaandSevernayaZemlyaintheRussianArctic.TheyalsoconfirmthatSpitsbergenandthoseRussianarchipelagoswereelementsoftheEarlyDevonian,palaeobiogeographicArcticProvince.
