ThefossilcrustaceansfromtheSahelAlmaLagerstätte(LateCretaceous,Lebanon),housedinthecollectiondePaléontologieoftheMuséumnationald'Histoirenaturelle,Paris,wereexaminedinordertohighlightthepresenceofepibionts.MarinespongegemmuleswererecognizedandaredescribedforthefirsttimeontherostrumofanewshrimpCarpopenaeusgarassinoiCharbonniern.sp.TheexceptionalconditionsoffossilizationintheSahelAlmaLagerstättealsopermittedthepreservationofthegemmulegerminationandthefirstdevelopmentstageoftheyoungsponge.Iftheshrimpdoesnotappeartobenefitfromtheassociation,itensuresthetransportandthecolonizationofnewterritoriesforthesponge.Thisassociationsponge/shrimpisnotknowneitherintherecentorinthepast.Itrepresentsoneofthefirstobservationsofafossilshrimpepibiont.CarpopenaeusgarassinoiCharbonniern.sp.istheyoungestrecordforthegenusCarpopenaeusGlaessner,1945whichwaspreviouslyknownfromtheTithonianofZandt(Germany)andfromtheCenomanianofLebanon(Hakel,HadjoulaLagerstätten).
