Adistinctivenewspecies,PandanusbernardiiH.St.JohnexCallm.,sp.nov.,endemicfromNewCaledonia,isdescribed.Thenewspeciesdiffersfromothermembersofthegenusinbytheornamentationofitsdrupesandthearrangementandshapeofitsstigmas.ThespecieswasalreadyrecognizedbybothH.St.JohnandB.C.Stonebutwasnevervalidlypublished.Themonospecificsection:PandanusParkinsonsect.BernardiaB.C.StoneexCallm.,sect.nov.,validatedhere,isrequiredtoaccommodatetheuniquemorphologyofthenewspecies.Linedrawingsareprovidedforthenewspecies,alongwithdiscussionsofitsmorphologicalaffinitiesandpreliminaryassessmentofextinctionriskfollowingIUCNRedListCategoriesandCriteria.
