【 摘 要 】

Ant-plantinteractionsmediatedbyspecialstructuresprovidedbyplantssuchasdomatia,extrafloralnectaries(EFNs)andfoodbodies,areveryfrequentintropicalecosystems.TounderstandwhyantsarefrequentlyencounteredonmostspeciesofCarapaAubl.(Meliaceae),weinvestigatedthepresenceofextranuptialnectaries(ENNs)inall27speciesofthegenus,spanningitsentiredistributionalrangeintropicalAfricaandAmerica.Wereportforthefirsttimeinthegenustheoccurrenceofextrafloralnectaries(atthebaseofthepetiole,alongtherachisofthepinnatelycompoundleaf,onbracts)petalinenectaries(ontheoutersurfaceofpetals),andpericarpialnectaries(onthesurfaceoffruits),andconfirmthepresenceofnectariesonleafletsinCarapa.Petiolarnectariesarethemostcommon,occurringin85%ofthespecies.Nectariesweremainlyactiveinyoungdevelopingplantorgans.Antswereobservedforagingonexudatesfromthesenectaries.ThesecretionsfromtheseglandshelptoexplaintheabundanceofantsonCarapatrees.AlthoughsimilarnectarieswerealsofoundinothermembersofthesubfamilyCedreloideae,theirpositionandfrequencyprovidenewcharactersfortheidentificationofCarapaspeciesinthefieldandtheherbarium.Asinothermyrmecophilousplants,ENNsprobablyconferadaptiveadvantagestoCarapatrees.
