MalagasyrelativesoftheCrown-of-Thorns(EuphorbiamiliiDesMoul.)arewellknownworldwidefortheirornamentalvalue.Malagasytaxaaccountforalmost10%ofthegenusEuphorbiaL.,with110acceptednamesconstitutingsubgenusLacanthis(Raf.)M.G.Gilbert.Thechaotictaxonomycombinedwiththepoorstateofpreservationofmostherbariumspecimensmakesthesystematicstudyofthishugegenusaquitedifficulttask.ThispaperoffersanomenclaturalaccountofallthepublishednameswitharecapitulatorylistcitingalltheacceptednamesinsubgenusLacanthisasafirststeptowardstherevisionofthegroup.
