Thepresentworkisbasedonananalysisofthe14763precisedeterminedmeteororbitscollectedintheJapanesetvcatalogue(SonotaCo(2009)),withtheaimofdeterminingtherealproportionofinterstellarmeteorsinthisdatabase.Ifinterstellarmeteorsarepresentamongtheregisteredmeteororbits,thedistributionoftheexcessesoftheirheliocentricvelocitiesshouldcorrespondtothedistributionoftheradialvelocitiesofclosestars.Forthevelocity$$v_i$$$$=$$20kms$$^{-1}$$ofaninterstellarmeteor,withrespecttotheSun,weobtainaheliocentricvelocityof$$v_H$$$$=$$46.6kms$$^{-1}$$ofaninterstellarmeteorarrivingatEarth.Anyerrorinthedeterminationof$$v_H$$,especiallyneartheparaboliclimit,cancreateanartificialhyperbolicorbitthatdoesnotreallyexist.Theanalysisofthedatadidnotproduceanyconvincingargumentsinfavouroftheexistenceoftruehyperbolicmeteorsinthecatalogue.Itwasshownthatthevastmajorityofthe484hyperbolicorbitshasbeencausedbyanoverestimationoftheirvelocity,andapproximately50%ofthembelongtometeorshowers.Furthermore,thehyperbolicexcessesofthevelocitiesinallcasesareverylow,aboutoneorderlessthanthevelocitydistributionofneighbouringstarssuggest.Theupperlimitoftheproportionofpossibleinterstellarmeteorstointerplanetaryonesamongallinvestigatedmeteororbitsinthedatabaseis1.3$$imes$$10$$^{-3}$$.
