Wecarriedoutawide-fieldTVobservationofthestrongactivityoftheLeonidmeteorshowerfrom$${17{}^{mathrm{h}}17{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$UTthrough$${20{}^{mathrm{h}}20{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$UTon2001November18.Wedetected869Leonidmeteors,alongwith32non-Leonids.Abroadpeakoftheactivitywasrecognizedataround$${18{}^{mathrm{h}}25{}^{mathrm{m}}}$$UT,whenthepeakinfluxrateofmeteoroidswas$$1.4imes10^{-5},mathrm{km}^{-2},mathrm{s}^{-1}$$($$mathrm{mag}le+3$$).Theactivityofthismainpeakwascomparabletothatofastormobservedin1999overEurope.Theactivityofthispeakwasrichinbrightmeteors,includingfireballclass.Themagnitudedistributionindexwas$$1.5pm0.3$$($$-3lemathrm{mag}le+1$$).Therelationshipbetweentheobservedpeakandseveraltheoreticalpredictionsisdiscussed.Wealsodiscussan“outburst”,whichconsistedofatleast15faintmeteorswhichappearedwithinfoursecondsat$${17{}^{mathrm{h}}56{}^{mathrm{m}}22{}^{mathrm{s}}}$$.
