【 摘 要 】

Wecarriedouttwo-dimensionalhydrodynamicsimulationstostudythenonlineargrowthofthegravitationalinstabilityofaself-gravitatingisothermalgaseousslabconfinedbyexternalpressure.Whentheexternalpressureislow,theJeansinstabilitycreatesdensecollapsingclumpsforlong-wavelengthperturbations.Whentheexternalpressureishigh(Pext/P00gt;0.64whereP00istheinitialmid-planepressureandPextistheexternalpressure),anincompressiblemodeofgravitationalinstabilitycreatesclumps,themassofwhichissmallerthantheJeansmass.Theclumpsmergeduetomutualgravitationalattraction.Althougheachclumpcannotcollapsegravitationally,whenitsmassexceedstheJeansmassbymerging,themergedclumpcollapsesgravitationally.Theseresultsindicatethatwhentheexternalpressureishigh,starformationcanbetriggeredbythemergingoflow-massJeansstableclumps.Inhighexternalpressureregions,weexpectthatthemassfunctionofcollapsingclumpsinthecloudshasapeakaroundtheJeansmass.
