AspectroscopicobservationofCometP/deVicointhevisibleregionwasmadeatBiseiAstronomicalObservatoryon1995October11.Theobtainedspectrumcoversthewavelengthsfrom5200to7200Ã…,andincludesseveralemissions,suchasC2,NH2,and[OI].Theratiosofthegas-productionratesofC2andNH2relativetothatofH2O,Q(C2)/Q(H2O),andQ(NH2)/Q(H2O),weredeterminedfromourobservationbasedontheHasermodel.Theproduction-rateratioandgas-to-dustratiowere:Q(C2)/Q(H2O)=0.25%,Q(NH2)/Q(H2O)=0.14%,andlog10[Q(H2O)/AfÏ]=26.9atthetimeofobservation.CometP/deVicowassimilartoP/Halleyfromtheviewpointofthechemicalcomposition(C2andNH2relativetotheH2O),andP/deVicowascomparabletoP/Brorsen-Metcalfconcerningthegas-to-dustratio.P/deVicowasoneofthemostgas-richcometseverknown.
