Wereportontheresultsofapost-periastronASCAobservationofthePSRB1259–63system,containinga48mspulsarorbitingaBestarinaneccentric3.4yrorbit.TheASCAobservationwascarriedouton1994February28whentheradiopulsarwasagainvisibleafteraprolonged40-dayradioeclipseneartoperiastron.ThesourcewasclearlydetectedwithanX-rayluminosity(1–10keV)LXof(1.03±0.09)×1034(d/2kpc)2ergs−1,wheredisthepulsar'sdistance.TheX-rayspectrumiswell-representedbyasinglepower-lawmodelofthephotonindex,α=1.61±0.06,andasmallphotoelectricabsorption,NH=(5.6±0.6)×1021cm−2.NosignificantX-raypulsationsweredetected,andtheupperlimitforthepulsedcomponentwasestimatedtobe15%ofthetotalX-rayflux,assumingsinusoidalmodulation.ThecharacteristicsoftheX-rayemissiondetectedon1994February28aresimilartothosedetectedbyASCAnearperiastronwhenthepulsedradioemissionfromPSRB1259-63waseclipsed.Ourresultsstronglyfavoranon-thermalmodelofX-rayemissiondrivenbysynchrotronradiationfromrelativisticshockedparticlesinthepulsarwindinteractingwiththeoutflowfromtheBestarcompanion.
