【 摘 要 】

TheabsenceofanHIGunn-PetersontroughextendingtothebluesideoftheLymanαemissioninthespectraofhigh-redshiftquasarshasplacedaseverelimitonthedensityofneutralhydrogenintheintergalacticmedium.Inaddition,aprobabledetectionofaHeIIGunn-Petersontroughhasbeenreported,thoughitiscontroversial.Ontheotherhand,numerousandnarrowabsorptionlinesinquasarspectrahavebeeninterpretedastheso-calledLymanαforest.TheywouldplayanimportantroleinrelationtotheevolutionoftheUVbackgroundradiationathighredshifts.WecalculatetheevolutionoftheUVbackgroundradiation,andexploretheionizationstatesofintergalacticgasandcloudswhiletryingtosolveanymutualrelationsamongthemconsistently.WeexaminetwosuchmodelsfortheLymanαcloudsaspressure-confinedandforthecloudsconfinedbycolddarkmatter,theminihalos.Fortheformer,theevolutionisnotconsistentwithotherobservationalconstraints,becausethesecloudswithlowHIcolumndensitiesevolvetoorapidlytobemissedindetectionatlowredshifts,z≲2,contrarytotheHSTobservationsthatmorenumerousLymanαabsorptionlinesexistthanpredictedbyextrapolationfromhighredshift.Otherwise,theminihaloscannotreproducetheevolutionoftheLyαforestathighredshiftsifassumedthattheevolutionoftheUVbackgroundisproportionaltothenumberofQSOs.Consequently,weproposeatwo-componentmodel:pressure-confinedcloudsathighredshiftsandminihalosatlowredshifts,whilesatisfyingalloftheobservationalconstraintsmarginallywithinresonableparameters.
