MiRNAsplayanessentialroleinthenetworksofgeneregulationbyinhibitingthetranslationoftargetmRNAs.SeveralcomputationalapproacheshavebeenproposedforthepredictionofmiRNAtarget-genes.Reportsrevealalargefractionofunder-predictedorfalselypredictedtargetgenes.Thus,thereisanimperativeneedtodevelopacomputationalmethodbywhichthetargetmRNAsofexistingmiRNAscanbecorrectlyidentified.Inthisstudy,combinedpatternrecognitionneuralnetwork(PRNN)andprinciplecomponentanalysis(PCA)architecturehasbeenproposedinordertomodelthecomplicatedrelationshipbetweenmiRNAsandtheirtargetmRNAsinhumans.Theresultsofseveraltypesofintelligentclassifiersandourproposedmodelwerecompared,showingthatouralgorithmoutperformedthemwithhighersensitivityandspecificity.UsingtherecentreleaseofthemirBasedatabasetofindpotentialtargetsofmiRNAs,thismodelincorporatedtwelvestructural,thermodynamicandpositionalfeaturesofmiRNA:mRNAbindingsitestoselecttargetcandidates.
