【 摘 要 】

Flexiblejointsseparatetherigidsectionsoftheinsectleg,allowingthemtomove.InDrosophila,theinitialpatterningofthesejointsisapparentinthelarvalimaginaldiscsfromwhichtheadultlegswilldevelop.Here,wedescribethelaterpatterningandmorphogenesisofthejoints,whichoccursafterpupariation(AP).Inthetibial/tarsaljoint,theapodemeinsertionsiteprovidesafixedmarkerfortheboundarybetweenproximalanddistaljointterritories(theP/Dboundary).Cellsoneithersideofthisboundarybehavedifferentlyduringmorphogenesis.Morphogenesisbeginswiththeapicalconstrictionofdistaljointcells,about24hAP.Distalcellsthenbecomecolumnar,causingdistaltissuenearesttheP/Dboundarytofoldintotheleg.Inthelaststageofjointmorphogenesis,theproximaljointcellsclosesttotheP/Dboundaryalignandelongatetoforma“palisade”(arowofcolumnarcells)overthedistaljointcells.Theproximalanddistaljointterritoriesarecharacterisedbythedifferentialorganisationofcytoskeletalandextracellularmatrixproteins,andbythedifferentialexpressionofenhancertraplinesandothergenemarkers.Thesemarkersalsodefineanumberofmorelocalisedterritorieswithinthepupaljoint.
