【 摘 要 】

PreviousworkhasshownthatRanacatesbeianatadpoleshavetwoerythropoieticsites:mesonephrickidneyandliver.Bothsitesapparentlyareactivethroughoutlarvallife.Amongthepleomorphiclarvalredbloodcells(RBCs)weobservetwomorphologicaltypeswhichdifferinthelarvalhemoglobins(Hb)thattheycontain.Onetypeisanoblong,ovalRBCwithanacentricnucleusandcontainsthelarvalHbwhichisslowestmigratingonelectrophoresisatbasicpH.ThisRBCtypeemanatesfromthekidneys.Theothertype,whichisellipticalinshape,withacentralnucleus,containsthreeotherlarvalHbsandemanatesfromtheliver.Histologicalsectionsofkidneyandliverrevealerythropoieticfociofdifferingcellularcompositionandconfiguration.WehavehypothesizedthatchoiceofRBCandHbtypesisdeterminedinpartbythedifferenterythropoieticmicroenvironments.Insupportofthishypothesisisourfindingthat,inorgancultures,livercoculturedwithkidneyundergoesashiftinitsHbpattern.PartoftheshiftistowardtheHbtypewhichistheproductofkidneyerythropoiesis.
