【 摘 要 】

14C-labeledleucineinjectedintoXenopusrapidlybecomesincorporatedintoliverprotein;subsequentlythespecificactivityofserumproteinrises.Theextentofserumproteinlabelingispronounced,particularlyinestrogen-treatedmalesandvitellogenicfemales;however,inthelattercase,labeledproteinrapidlydisappearsfromthecirculationandthespecificactivityofovarianproteinsimultaneouslyrisestoaplateau.Serumchromatogramsdemonstratethatmostofthevariablelabelingoftheserumisthefunctionofasingleserumcomponent,designatedSLPP.Thiscomponentisproducedbytheliverasindicatedbythesyntheticcapacityofliverslicesinvitro,andthehepaticsynthesisandsecretionofSLPPappearstobeunderthecontrolofestrogen.SLPPistakenupselectivelybythematuringovaryandspecificallybythevitellogenicoocyte.Thelatter,however,mustfirstbeactivatedbyahormonalfactorinordertoperformthistask.Onceincorporatedintotheoocyte,SLPPappearstotransformintothetwoproteinsofthecrystallineyolkplatelet,phosvitinandlipovitellin,andhencerepresentstheprecursormoleculeforcrystallineyolk.
