【 摘 要 】

Flightdirectionsandroutesofmigratingbirdsaredeterminedbythebirds'compassorientation,butalsobyeffectsofwind,socialinfluence,responsestotopographyandlandmarks,andtonavigationcues.WeinvestigatedtheorientationandroutestakenbyarcticshorebirdsduringautumnmigrationinsouthernSwedenatthreedifferentsitessituatedwithinadistanceof200kmfromeachother,inrelationtothebirds'destinations.Weusedthreedifferentmethods,visualtelescopeobservations,trackingradarregistrationandringrecoveries.Meantrackdirectionsdifferedsignificantlybetweenthedifferentsitesinawaythatdemonstratedfine-scaledorientationchangeswhentheshorebirdspassedthesouthernBalticregion.Thegradualchangecannotbeexplainedbydifferentwindconditionsatthedifferentsitesorbydistinctresponsestospecifictopographicalfeatures,i.e.thebirdswerenotfollowingcoastlinesorprominentlandmarksinanydetailedway.Neithercoulditbereconciledwithorientationaccordingtoanyofthemaincompassmechanismsknowntobeusedbymigratingbirdswhichindicatesthatthecontrolofflightcoursesandpathsmaybemorecomplexthanexpected.Theshorebirdsmighttravelwithinaslightlywindingflightcorridorinbroadagreementwiththelarge-scaletopographytomaximizegeneralassociationwithcoastalhabitatsduringmigration.Juvenilebirdshadasignificantlydifferentorientationthanadults,particularlywhenthejuvenilestravelledinflockswithoutanyadults.Juvenilebirdsmaylearnthegeneralflightpathsandcoursechangesinrelationtothelarge-scaletopographyfromolderandexperiencedindividualsintheflocks,butmostofthislearningprocessbetweengenerationsprobablydoesnottakeplaceuntilafterthebirds'firstautumnmigration.
