AnineyearsearchforthefirstnestingBorealOwlsAegoliusfunereusinNovaScotia,CanadaculminatedinthediscoveryoftwonestsinCapeBretonHighlandsNationalParkofCanadain2004.In2005,onenestnorthoftheParkandanothernestonmainlandNovaScotiawerealsofound.Neststartdatesrangedfrom20Marchto3Juneoverthetwoyears;onlythenestwiththelateststartdatefailedentirely,theothernestsfledgedtwoorthreeyoungeach.Nestswereinborealforest,withBalsamFirAbiesbalsameaandWhiteBirchBetulapapyriferanormallydominating.ThesefindingsextendtheknownbreedingdistributionoftheBorealOwleastwardsbyapproximately450kmatthelatitudefound.
