Wemonitoredthedynamicsofowls,raptorsandcorvidswithinthe3400haoftheAmsterdamWaterSupplyDunesinthewesternNetherlandsfrom1961through2007.Inthe1930sand1950s,afforestationprojectswereinitiated.In1961thefirstTawnyOwlnestwasfound,fromwhencethepopulationincreasedsteadilytostabilizeinthe1970satc.24pairs.TawnyOwldynamicswereaffectedbycompetitionfornestsiteswithJackdawsCorvusmonedulaanddepredationbyNorthernGoshawksAccipitergentilis.JackdawswereabletotakeovernestboxesfromegglayingandincubatingTawnyOwls,reducingtheletter'sbreedingsuccess.TawnyOwlnumbersandbreedingsuccesswerenegativelycorrelatedwithJackdawnumbers(R2=0.556andR2=0.592,respectively).Afterthefirstnestin1993,Goshawknumbersrapidlyincreasedto10–11pairsin1999.ThenumberofJackdawbreedingpairscorrelatednegativelywiththenumberofGoshawks(R2=0.661).GoshawksapparentlylimitedJackdawnumbers,whichledtoanimprovementofTawnyOwlbreedingsuccess.However,post-fledgingmortalityofTawnyOwlfromGoshawkpredationwasalsosignificant,reducinglocalrecruitmentintheTawnyOwlbreedingpopulation.
