WepresentanupdatedchecklistofthebirdsoftheislandsofAruba,CuraçaoandBonaire,andtheisletsofKleinCuraçaoandKleinBonaire,southernCaribbean,andcomparethiswithearlierchecklists(K.H.Voous,Stud.FaunaCuraçaoCarib.Isl.7:1–260,1957;Ardea53:205–234,1965;BirdsoftheNetherlandsAntilles,1983).Theavifaunalcompositionofthethreemainislandsisrelativelysimilar(similaritycoefficientsof74–78%forresidentsand65–73%formigrants)whereasthetwoisletsare,orwereinthepast,inhabitedmainlybyseabirds.Thetotalnumberofrecordedresidentspeciesfortheseislandshasincreasedfrom115(1957)to168(2006),andofmigrantsfrom117(1957)to236(2006).ThisincreasewasmostprominentfortheislandofAruba(residentsfrom34to56,migrantsfrom28to166),andleastforCuraçao(residentsfrom42to57,migrantsfrom55to168).HistoricallyKleinCuraçaowasanimportantnestingsiteforseabirds,i.e.boobies,gullsandterns,butminingofguanointhe19thcenturysignificantlyloweredtheornithologicalvalueoftheislet.KleinBonairesufferedheavilyfromthepresenceofgoatsbutisslowlyrecoveringfollowingtheirremovalandtheislet'sinclusion.
