【 摘 要 】

NativetotheIndo-Africanarea,theCattleEgretBubulcusibisisnowacosmopolitanspecies,stillingreatrangeexpansion.Thefactorsaffectingbreedingsuccessofthespeciesremainhoweverpoorlyknown,andhereweinvestigatethebreedingbiologyoftheCattleEgretinanewbreedingpopulationintheSoummamValley(PetiteKabylie,Algeria).Theinstallationchronologyandnestsiteselectionaredescribed,andtheireffectonbreedingsuccessinvestigated.ThenestingseasonlastedgenerallyfromtheendofMarchtotheendofJuly.Clutchsize,numberofhatchedchicksandbreedingsuccesswerelowcomparedtootherbreedingareasintheMediterranean.ThefirstCattleEgretsarrivingatthecolonyinMarchselectedthehighesttreesandthehighestnestsupportsclosetothetrunk.Withnewarrivalsduringthecourseoftheseason,agradualdecreasewasobservedintheheightofthenestswhichwereprogressivelybuiltawayfromthetrunk.Thisselectivebehaviourallowedthefirstinstalledpairstohaveabetterbreedingsuccess.Thisphenomenonisdiscussedherewithintheframeworkofterritorialityandthebreedingadvantagesofbeinghighrankinginthe‘territorialhierarchy’fortheindividual.
