Inthepresentstudywedescribethemorphometricsof97liveEurasianGriffonVulturesGypsfulvuscollectedontheislandofCrete(Greece)andasexdeterminationmodelonthebasisofvariousfieldtechniquesandmultivariatedataanalysis.Wedeterminedthesexof49individualswithsex-specificDNAmarkersandpolymerasechainreactionusingDNAextractedfrombloodsamples.Adultbirdsweregenerallylargerthanyoungoneswiththewingchordbeingtheonlysignificantlydifferentcharacter.MaleGriffonsweresmallerthanfemalesformostbodycharactersandsignificantlylarger(c.3–5%)forheadlength,headwidth,billlengthandbilllengthincludingthecere.Astepwisediscriminantfunctionanalysisshowedahighpredictivepoweringenderdeterminationbyclassifying94.1%oftheindividualsofknownsexthatwasnotreducedbyajackknifecross-validationtechnique.
