【 摘 要 】

This study determined the effects of attitudes towards Java programming on novice Java programming errors. Two hundred fifty-three (253) students (i.e., novice Java programmers) were the subject of the study. Factor analysis revealed that there were five types of attitudes exhibited during laboratory programming exercises. Novice Java programmers tend to be enthusiastic, unmotivated, unconfident, elated, or driven. Also, it was revealed that there were five types of errors committed. These were Invalid symbols or keywords, Mismatched symbols, Missing symbols, Inappropriate naming, and Excessive Symbols. Multiple regression analysis showed that an unconfident attitude towards programming was more likely to predict all types of errors. The implications of the findings were also discussed.
