【 摘 要 】
The ethyl acetate extract of the freeze-dried pericarp of Garcinia mangostana L. afforded α-mangostin (1), gartanin (2) and a 2:1 mixture of 2 and 3-isomangostin (3) by silica gel chromatography. The structures of 1–3 were elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy. At 30 μg, 1 exhibited high antibacterial activity against S. aureus, moderate activity against C. albicans, and low activity against B. subtilis, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, T. mentagrophytes, and A. niger. Compound 2 showed low antibacterial activity against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus and B. subtilis, low antifungal activity against C. albicans and T. mentagrophytes, and was inactive against A. niger. A mixture of 2 and 3 exhibited low antibacterial activity against P. aeruginosa, S. aureus and B. subtilis, low antifungal activity against C. albicans and T. mentagrophytes, and was inactive against E. coli and A. niger.
