【 摘 要 】
The estimate of pond volume at regional and national scale would allow a better management of emptying rhythms and fight against eutrophication. Nine bathymetrical maps were surveyed in Limousin region, letting a mathematical regression which relates area and volume. It comes into operation with our new database listing all the 15,000 Limousin ponds. The result is an estimate of the regional pond water volume of about 100 millions cubic metres. If extrapolated to the manmade and fish ponds all over France, the water volume would be about 1.6 billion cubic metres. With measurement of the factors of the water balance in three ponds, we estimate the average of the mean residence times in Limousin ponds to about thirty hours.
