【 摘 要 】

From the Bronze Age to the present day, inhabitants of South Arabia have given priority to the diversion of floodwater to irrigate their fields. During the first centuries of the Christian era, however, a new irrigation technique was adopted in the western mountains. Dams were built to retain and store water from wadis. This article aims at reviewing our knowledge about them and at linking their appearance to the development of the kingdom of Himyar.
