【 摘 要 】

The origins of political language in/Sanaa : the /Humaynî works of Muhammad Sharaf al-DinMuhammad b. Sharaf al-Dîn was, as far aswe know, the first poet of Zaydi origin to have written in the /humaynîgenre.Examination of the language of this non-classical poetry revealsthe first step in a process of adapting to the highlands a poetic languagefirst developed in the lowlands during the Rasulid period.Not limited bythe canons of literary Arabic and avoiding a strongly vernacular flavor(although it did incorporate several idiomatic peculiarities), the languageof this poet would be the foundation of one of the main poetic-musicalgenres of contemporary Yemen, the /Sanaani chant.
