【 摘 要 】
In recent years, a serious problem that leads to environment pollution is the abundance and increase of waste from palm oil mills. The major approach to solve this problem is to recycle and reuse of this waste material. In this paper, Palm Oil Fuel Ash (POFA) a by-product of palm oil mills was used as a bitumen modifier at normal condition and subjected to aging. The properties of the modified bitumen were investigated by penetration, softening point, penetration index (PI), penetration-viscosity numbers (PVN) and viscosity tests. Two laboratory simulation aging methods, named standard rolling thin film oven (RTFO) test and pressure aging vessel (PAV) test were applied in this study. The experimental results showed that softening point of the bitumen increased whereas its penetration decreased upon incorporation of POFA. It is also noted that the addition of POFA can cause the bitumen more temperature susceptible especially at high content. Generally, the use of POFA as modified bitumen reduces the aging effect on physical and rheological properties as illustrated through lower aging index of viscosity.
