【 摘 要 】

PURPOSE: To verify the influence of socioeconomic status in temporal resolution of school-age children in two evaluation protocols.METHODS: The sample comprised 44 children with ages ranging from six to 11 years old; all of them had no history of otological and/or audiological alterations, known neurological and psychological diseases, and had normal hearing. The sample was divided into three groups, according to the Brazilian Criterion of Economic Classification of the Brazilian Research Enterprises Association: Group 1: high socioeconomic level; Group 2: middle socioeconomic level; Group 3: low socioeconomic level. The random gap detection test (RGDT) and the gaps-in-noise test (GIN) were carried out. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Ryan-Einot-Gabriel-Welch Multiple Range Test.RESULTS: Mean scores of groups 1, 2 and 3 were higher for the RGDT than for the GIN test. Regarding socioeconomic status, both tests showed statistically significant differences among the groups.CONCLUSION: Socioeconomic status influenced temporal resolution measured by both RGDT and GIN tests.
