【 摘 要 】

In this article, the authors introduce amedical expert system aimed at assisting physicians in the diagnosis,treatment and management of diseases. Some medical expert systems whichcan be used in hospitals in India are listed. The list has been compiledon the basis of an elaborate review of medical expert systems fromliterature covering the period 1975-95. The authors give suggestions forexploiting medical expert systems to improve the health care deliverysystem in the country. Need for the development of medical expertsystems for exclusive use of defence personnel is discussed.
